Facelift, Neck Lift

During the ageing process, a decrease is observed in some critical proteins in the structure of the skin, the number of cells and the substances between the cells. As a result, the skin loses its thickness, flexibility, surface structure and beautiful appearance, and sometimes some colour changes occur. The skin that has lost its elasticity becomes wrinkled and sagging. The sagging skin is most evident on the cheeks, neck and outer parts of the eyebrows. Smoking, an unhealthy lifestyle, exposure to the sun are the most substantial factors that accelerate this process. Although there are many surgical and nonsurgical methods of treating sagging skin, the patient’s health status, the amount of sagging, the patient’s anatomy, and other accompanying deformities should be evaluated and the most appropriate treatment for you should be decided together with your medical attendant. Facelift surgery aims to fix sagging cheeks, lower parts of the face and chin/neckline. The purpose of facelift surgery is to make the patient look younger and at the same time natural. It can be combined with eyelid, temple-forehead lift and fat injections. Even though the operation and healing process is longer compared to other methods that rejuvenate the sagging face, facelift surgery is the method with the longest permanence.

PREPARATION FOR SURGERY

Detailed examination of the patient is the first and most important step. The general condition of the patient, accompanying diseases, medications used, and whether expectations are realistic are the most important points for us. Detailed examination together with the anesthesiologist is a must for preoperative preparation. If the patient smokes, it is recommended to stop 3 weeks beforehand, and blood thinners to be discontinued before the specified time.

SURGERY METHOD

During facelift surgery, the layers on the face are carefully opened with the incisions made from the scalp, inside and behind the ear. These removed facial layers are stretched back and upwards, and sagging tissues are intervened. Drains are used to prevent blood accumulation under the skin and to reduce swelling and bruising after surgery.

HEALING PROCESS

Stitches are removed in an average of 10 days, during this process oedema on the face will be significantly regressed. The pain is not too severe, usually at a level that can be relieved with painkillers. It may take 4-6 months for the skin to fully harmonise with the face and take full shape. In this process, the face must be protected from physical trauma. A described massage may be required. It is recommended not to smoke for 1 month after the operation. As with any surgery, there is a risk of complications during facelift surgery. Some of these may require revision surgery attempts.
