Bichectomy

Bichectomy surgery, known as Hollywood cheek, is the operation of controlled removal of the adipose tissue called Bichat in the cheek with an incision through the mouth. The aim is to make the face more attractive by making the face take a ‘V’ shape and the cheekbone transition more prominent. It is mostly performed under local anaesthesia. The most suitable candidates for this operation are round-faced people with a bulging, chubby lower cheek area. Sometimes with such patients, combining it with botox application to the masseter area can provide better results. It is very important to choose the appropriate surgical technique for the appropriate patient in this surgery.

PREPARATION FOR SURGERY

Detailed examination of the patient is the first and most important step. The general condition of the patient, accompanying diseases, medications used, and whether expectations are realistic are the most important points for us. Detailed examination together with the anesthesiologist is a must for preoperative preparation. If the patient smokes, it is recommended to stop 3 weeks beforehand, and blood thinners to be discontinued before the specified time. Preoperative planning is an important step for surgical preparation.

With pre-operative planning, each patient’s special conditions are evaluated and surgical planning is made in accordance with the anatomy of the jawline, cheek and face.

HEALING PROCESS

Depending on the procedure and taking into account the general condition of the patient, the patient can be discharged from the hospital on the same day; the patient can also be treated by hospitalization for one or several nights after surgery. In this process, the necessary treatments are performed, it is recommended to lie down with a few pillows under the head to keep it high.

If there are stitches in the mouth, dietary regulation and oral care that will provide oral hygiene are recommended. The pain is not very severe, usually at a level that can be relieved with painkillers. In the early period, facial swelling and oedema may occur. Within few weeks, the procedure will begin to show itself as oedema recedes. As with any surgery, there is a risk of complications during bichectomy.
